- What do you call a dinosaur with an extensive vocabulary and a penchant for English puns? Grammarly had it, and lots more.
- DAE wonder if people really use the slang in slang guides? Or realize they deffo needed this English slang update? Thanks Nylon mag, now we are cooler. J
- Je suis ‘troll’. The Local France updated us on English words that are officially entering the French lexicon here.
- The Guardian had an interesting essay about how it’s ok to say “No thanks” to Shakespeare (as long as you are OK with the Baz Luhrman Romeo + Juliet, or you’ll make our 14 year-old selves cry).
- The Economist told us that this year, the South Korean novel “The Vegetarian” won the Man Booker International Prize, the world’s most important literary translation award.
- The Macmillan Dictionary broke down its own “Real Vocabulary Quiz” to talk about how language changes over time, and the same words might have different meanings in different languages. For instance, is it “the data is…” or “the data are…”?
- The future is here! Bored Panda told us about a (real, existing, not-from-Star-Trek) “In-Ear Device That Translates Foreign Languages In Real Time”. Yay!
- A new Itchy Feet comic is out. We might be guilty of this cultural jetlag business ourselves sometimes…
- Even after the government axed the funding for Cornish language support, The Guardian reported that a TV ad for ice cream aired in Cornish in the UK. We love it, and the ice cream looks delicious!
- Grammarly has “5 Interesting Words That Perfectly Describe Fridays” from ennui to victuals. We’re going to fudgel until 5pm and read this article verrrry slowly.
- We learned from The Upcoming that our quirks of language and our eccentricities can actually change the way our brains work! How cool is that?
