- Instagram added a language-translation feature to Android and iOS App, something we think we’ll will be seeing more and more.
- Sitting-in Dems chanted “No Fly, No Buy!”, echoing alliterative protest slogans used in the past. Read more about the history of slogan chanting here at the Wall Street Journal.
- We learned in the Scotland Herald that Scotland is leading the world in sign language provision – rock on Scotland!
- Daily Mail had an interesting article behind this funny headline, “Au revoir, English?” about how the EU is rejecting the English language after being rejected by Brexit. Now French say the language has ‘no legitimacy’ and should be kicked out of Europe too after Brexit.
- The American Literary Translators Association hosts their conference ALTA, and bookfair, in October.
- XKCD made a great point about linguists this week. Hint… they’re messing with us!
- These eight Spanish habits from Flashsticks sound lovely for everyday, not just for a holiday. Can we go to Spain now please?
- Found a new (to us) blog this week called ReThinkingSchools, and got sucked into this well thought out essay on why students shouldn’t be forced to use rigid paragraph structures in their writing. Food for thought.
- There’s a movie scripted entirely by a computer… but perhaps it is not the harbinger of the future it sounds like it might be.
